Hey, So I've recently purchased a mk5 3dr gti in silver with 65k on the clock, manual 6 speed remapped with a miltek backbox and so far I'm liking it..

read a little bit up on what I should review and luckily I found some horror story threads on the cam follower so I though't I'd better check mine.. luckily I did and drove to VW the same day to buy a replacement haha! see below for new vs old

as with most private sellers somethings always hidden away that's either broken or on its way out.. in this instance its the aircon which is non blowing cold. when I originally test drove it the aircon functioned.. though not 100% cold. So I assume it has a small leak somewhere, is this something that I can check out myself or will I need an aircon specialist to carry out a UV vapour test? if it comes out bad whats the likely damage costs wise?

Finally are there any other checks I should carry out of known faults? Its got full current service history & it drives fine. I've has it a week now with no real issues, the idle is quite loud with the engine bay open but I've heard this is just loud injectors associated with the 2.0 TFSI?

Cheers, Reidy

DV, PCV are common faults. Revision G and revision R respectively are the parts to get.

Rear calipers are crap, really common for them to bind.

Keep an eye out for rust on the front arches. There's a VW bulletin for this and should be covered by VW warranty. Also sills and under the rear badge.

Probably lots more but those are amoung the most common.
